I read an interesting stat the other day on pizza consumption in the US. Basically three billion pizzas are sold in the US and the average American eats about 46 slices a year. So, while I’m not a math whiz, this basically means that we all
Personally, I probably eat well over those 46 slices a year, since I probably eat a minimum of four slices each sitting. Heifer-ish, I know. But, I mean, how can you go wrong with bread, pizza sauce and cheese? It’s the perfect combination that is only enhanced when you add more toppings.
I also read that it was once considered peasant food, since it is designed to be eaten without utensils. Hmm…Anyways, I’ve had some great pizza and some terrible pizza in my time. And, not to be a bragger, but I’ve also had pizza in the thin crust motherland, Italy, and the deep dish heaven, Chicago. I’m not picky and love both types – as long as it’s good, I’m one happy eater.
The other day, my sister was perusing Yelp and came around Bibo’s pizza parlor that was described as a hole in the wall (and next to a liquor store), yet the user ratings were phenomenal. I asked her if she wanted to tag along on my adventure and she reminded me that it’s swimsuit season. Rude.
Instead, I convinced the bf to go walk with me to the pizza shop and enjoy a slice. Well, let’s just say our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and a slice turned into a little bit more...
As I mentioned before, I am a four-slice-per-sitting-type-of-girl. So, naturally, I suggested we get a whole pizza. Um, I definitely didn’t realize that Bibo’s sells by-the-slice or by-the-pizza – and, one size feeds all. And by all, they mean you, your friends, your neighbors, the kids down the street and all the starving children in Africa.
After bringing it back to the house, it was time to dig in.I think my appetite has gone down. I only at two slices and was stuffed. We ordered half “Pizza Meatz” which came with pepperoni, sausage, linguica, ham and bacon and half “Classic Combo” that was topped with mushrooms, green peppers, olives, sausage and pepperoni.
I really loved this pizza. A few things really stood out for me:
No grease. I hate when I eat pizza and am left with “jam hands” and have grease covering my face and seeping into my pours. This pizza wasn’t greasy at all – simply delicious.
Peppers. A few years ago, I found out I love peppers. Naturally, I was expecting the typical crunch green bell pepper on my Classic Combo side. But, I was happily surprised to find that these peppers were actually sautéed/seasoned. These tasted closer to green chili’s that have a nice kick to them and added some heat.
Made with Love. I typically hate all-meat pizza since I leave feeling like a sick carnivore. Instead, this side of the pizza had the meat cut up in strips so you didn’t get an overbearing salty taste from the meat.
Would I go back?
Hell yes, but next time I’ll bring more peeps to help me finish off the pizza. I know it’s swimsuit season and all, but any takers?

Ok, now I am craving pizza. Probably doesn't help that I am reading this at lunch time. Oh and tell that sister of yours that this is why swim suit cover-ups were invented...problem solved ;)
ReplyDeleteI know, I'll have to tell her - hence my favorite Julia Child quote: The only time to eat diet food is while you're waiting for the steak to cook.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to give Bibo's a try

ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a call ahead and pick up kind of place. Make sure to leave the kids at home because this thing almost takes up the entire backseat.
